No joke, this Vegan Black Forest Smoothie, might be my all time favorite smoothie! That’s no small thing, considering I love smoothies and enjoy them almost daily. The perfect combination of cherries and chocolate makes me feel like I am enjoying dessert. An amazing dessert that requires almost no effort, no baking time and is nourishing!



Post workout motivation







Confession: Sometimes, right before a super tough workout, I’ll bribe myself with the promise of making and eating a Vegan Black Forest Smoothie when it’s over! Yes, even us “health nuts” sometimes struggle with workout motivation.  I assure you, one taste of this smoothie and it will likely become your motivation on “those days”too.

My Vegan Black Forest Smoothie is actually a very healthy post workout treat. It tastes amazing, but most importantly, it offers my body dense nutrients that help replenish what it needs to thrive. Another great post workout smoothie is my Beet Smoothie


Cherries: high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, aids digestion, contain natural melatonin, high in vitamin C

Cacao Powder: high in magnesium, iron, antioxidants and minerals.






Consider these add-ins:


Vegan Black forest SmoothieChia Seeds: excellent source of Omega 3’s, iron, calcium and fiber

Maca Powder: high in vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients, fiber, antioxidants

Hemp Hearts:  great source of protein, high in fatty acids and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc

Organic, Blackstrap Molasses:  iron, calcium, magnesium, selenium and vitamin B6




There’s no mess like a smoothie mess

Vegan Black Forest SmoothieIf any of you have ever had the unfortunate experience of a smoothie slipping out of someone’s hands and hitting your floor at top speed you might know that it’s an event to clean it all up. And, by event I mean more like what I imagine a crime scene clean-up to look like. The splatter pattern of a high speed smoothie drop can be impressive. For some reason one of my boys has a propensity for dropping smoothies. I have cleaned smoothie splatters from the ceiling (twice), cabinets, air vents, dining tables and chairs, patio furniture, shoes, socks, clothing, rugs, built in wine rack, my stove top and many more obscure places…. *sigh*

Today was no exception. Writing this post obviously created a craving for a Vegan Black Forest Smoothie. So, of course I made one. Because it’s summer and everyone is home, I had to share. It was about one sip in and we all heard the familiar crashing sound that only a smoothie can make.

At first glance, it didn’t look that bad, phew! Wrong. There is no child whose clothes or feet were spared. There were Vegan Black Forest Smoothie footprints everywhere. I was just glad that my oldest’s cast was not in the cross fire! Somehow, I even found smoothie in our closed silverware drawer. Once it was all cleaned up, I found some on the wall in the stairwell. I’m like the Sherlock Holmes of smoothie spills trying to figure that one out.

No matter how many smoothie catastrophes there might be, we won’t stop drinking them. The ease of creating such a nutrient dense treat keeps us blending, mess or no mess.




This Vegan Black Forest Smoothie is a healthy way to have your cake and drink it too. Smoothies are such a great way to combine a ton of healthful foods to create a nutrient dense meal or snack. Cherries and chocolate combine perfectly in this Vegan Black Forest Smoothie to create a delicious, healthy meal replacement, snack or anytime sweet treat.

Prep Time:5 min
Total Time:5 min
Yield:2 cups
* 1/2 cup pomegranate or cherry juice
* 1 cup vegan milk of choice
* 1 cup frozen cherries
* 1 frozen banana
* 1/2 cup frozen spinach/kale or 1 cup fresh spinach/kale
* 2 Tbls cacao powder
* 1 TBL maple syrup, molasses or agave
* Optional Add- Ins
* 1 TBL vegan chocolate chips
* 1 TBL chia seeds
* 1 TBL hemp hearts
* 1 teaspoon maca powder
* vegan protein powder
1. Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender, liquids first

2. Blend on smoothie setting if available, or on high for 1 1/2-3 minutes, until smooth

3. Enjoy!

4. Freeze any leftover smoothie into Popsicle molds if desired
